As COVID-19 social distancing and self quarantining continue, I find myself going a little stir crazy and very anxious. I am still going to work every day and seeing patients. When I am at home, I decompress by learning how to make infographics. Here are some things I came up with for things to do during quarantine to help with anxiety and stress:
Learning a new skill can be extremely fun and rewarding. There are so many things to learn how to do:
- Learn to play a new instrument
- Learn to sing
- Learn web development
- Learn to draw
- Learn to build dollhouses!
- Currently, my obsession is learning how design infographics!
Udemy has a bunch of low cost classes with a 30 day money back guarantee. I got a Level 1 Reiki certification because why not?
Reading is very underrated in this time of instant gratification and dopamine hijacking, especially by social media. My favorite books are books that teach me something: it’s about condensing decades of knowledge into days. It takes a little time to turn reading into a daily habit; I discuss building good habits here.

I admit, not everyone wants to use this time to be productive. That’s ok! It is a very anxiety, stressful, and traumatic time. This pandemic has up-ended lives all around the globe. Self-care becomes the most important thing during this time.
It is very important to take time to care for yourself. In our go-go-go world before quarantine, we never have time to just enjoy and relax. This is the perfect time to do it!
Consider taking a nice relaxing bubble bath with epsom salt while playing a nice meditation track. A good app that I like is INSIGHT TIMER. It has thousands of free guided meditation.
Music is a great way to relax. Put on your favorite tune, dance, sing, or play an instrument!
RESTORATION (aka restorative practices)
Yoga, meditation, qi gong are modalities that can be a new skill and a self-care modality. These restorative exercises have many health benefits, here are a few:
- Slow down aging
- Pain relieving properties are almost twice as effective as morphine
- Reduce blood pressure
- Reshape your brain and have neuromodulatory actions that slow down aging of the brain
- Make you less reactive and anxious about the world around you
- Improve memory
Never in the history of the world has our world been on PAUSE. This is such a special time to really make the most of it. The question we should all ask is, what will we change when we hit RESUME?
